Did I Mention the Free Wine?

October 2008

Poetry In Motion As The Week Wine Club Joins Felix Dennis On Tour.

The renowned poet, publisher, business tycoon and entrepreneur Felix Dennis has set forth on the UK’s largest ever poetry tour to celebrate the launch of his latest collection, Homeless in my Heart¸ taking with him enough free wine to make even Lord Byron turn his head.

The wines, which are part of The Week Wine Club (TWWC) - the official wines of his own weekly news magazine, will be served at each of the eleven free recitals. Entitled Did I Mention the Free Wine?, the tour begins October 2nd in London before wending its way around the UK. A special Felix Dennis wine case, including the new anthology, is also available from TWWC and includes the wines chosen by the poet for this nationwide recital. The wines are among those listed by the novel online wine retailer www.fromvineyardsdirect.com, who also run TWWC.

The eleven date poetry tour is a much-anticipated feature of every new Felix Dennis poetry collection. Did I Mention the Free Wine? has become an international phenomenon since the first outing in 2002. Since then, over 20,000 free glasses of fine French wine have been handed out at recitals, to over 10,000 fans, as part of this ever-expanding tour that has so far visited 50 international cities, and covered over 80,000 miles.

Did I Mention the Free Wine? has featured a number of acclaimed actors from the Royal Shakespeare Company on stage with Felix over the years, among them Anton Lessor, Sean Bean, Cherry Morris, Samantha Bond and Stephen Campbell Moore.

The events are free of charge to the public, but attendees are asked to make a voluntary donation to The Forest of Dennis, a charitable organisation established to create the UK’s largest native broadleaf forest - open to the public. The hope is that a further 2,000 trees will be planted as a result of the 2008 tour.

The directors of www.fromvineyardsdirect.com, Esme Johnstone and David Campbell, will be joining Felix on tour, although sadly neither has his own helicopter and they will be favouring national rail over limousines. Said Esme,

“It’s wonderful to be asked to provide the wines for this highly individual and enlivening poetry tour. There’s nothing in the world like hearing the latest musings from Felix, with a good quality Margaux in hand. Vintage stuff!”
