The Sandwich Rules the Rise of Al Desko Dining! September 2008 Concern about cash flow is creating a rise in al desko dining, with over 40% of the population reporting that they eat more frequently at their desks today than they did 24 months ago, when Britain was warned about the credit crunch. 10% of workers are now eating at their desks every day in order to cut their costs, research released by the 'I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter' team reveals. It is the homemade sandwich that is the preferred desk-based lunch choice, with 79% of the UK reporting that they make sandwiches weekly to take to work. According to our research the classic Cheese and Pickle sandwich is favoured filling with 27% crowning it their favourite choice, with the BLT as a close second (26%) but over 1/3 of people questioned admit they struggle to find inspiration and end up making the same sandwiches over and over again. Chef and nutritional expert Amanda Grant has some simple solutions “Plan ahead and buy key ingredients that you can mix and match through the week in different combinations – for example some bacon, grated carrot and tomato or humus, avocado and chopped up red pepper will allow you to create five different sandwich variations through the week, and all for under £10.” She continues “Don’t let your lunch break go to waste just because you’re staying at your desk for lunch. To help you switch off from work, close down any documents or your email you are working on, place your keyboard to the side, unpack your sandwich onto a plate and invite a colleague who is also dining al desko to join you.” For inspiration for al desko dining visit www.icantbelieveitsnotbutter.co.uk |
